Almost half way through the first month of the year and my training feels pretty much on point. As I figured it would be this year, I’m just trying to stay moving and look for the best race for this year for me.
Right now, I think might try to not race until the Fall as I want to be able to make the most of it when I do toe the line.
In addition to the running, I’ve been able to add in more strength training. This is going to be key to this year as last year I had dropped it from my routine. And boy…do I feel it some days.
I’m using a basic stripped down 5/3/1 method which I carried over as one of my take-aways from Crossfit. It’s a good program to activate the key muscles in running – glutes, quads and hamstrings. The upper body days will help to build strength to limit fatigue. Your arms should be helping you to drive through your runs not just along for the ride.
So at this point, I’m feeling strong and on point with what I was planning for the year.
